Directions:Create a design, preferably with acrylic paint. This design should include three elements:
I. PATTERN. Create some sort of repeating pattern in part of the composition. You could create a potato stamp to do this. You could copy a fabric pattern. You could make a pattern up out of your head. Whatever it takes to include a pattern you respond to.
II. REST. Part of your composition should restful--no texture, only very slight color changes if any at all.
III. INCIDENTAL TEXTURE. Some ideas for getting incidental textures would be:
1. Pour a thin layer of water over your acrylic painting. Mix a little bit of paint in the water and see how the pigments settle on your painting. Let it dry.
2. Lightly sand through the layers of your painting in specific areas to reveal the colors underneath.
3. Roll paint onto leaves and stamp your painting with the painted leaves.
4. Cover your painting with dried leaves, then do an acrylic wash over your painting. Let it dry and then remove the leaves.
5. Use a roller to apply a thin layer of paint onto a piece of cellophane. Put the cellophane on your painting face down, and draw on the cellophane, so that small amounts of paint transfer to your painting.
6. There are a million ways to get organic texture.
Again, this painting should have a combination of hard and soft edges. Again, the color harmonies should be beautiful. Again, your painting should look a lot better than my samples to the left.
Email your design to me when you're done.
